1912-23: A Sociological Approach to Equilibrium and Welfare

By 1912 Pareto’s scientific thought had shifted almost entirely to the non-logical side of his methodological dual and was centred on the development of a sociological approach to equilibrium. His most important article in that regard was “Il Massimo di utilita per una collettivita in sociologia” (Pareto 1913 [1999]), which was followed by his grand three-volume Sociologia (1916 [1935]). Pareto’s last article on economics “Economia sperimentale” (1918 [2008]), which was published when he was 70, was a mature reflection on the relationship between economics and sociology.
