Impact

Wicksell published all his major works in German, then a universal language of science. From early on he had letter correspondences and other exchanges with many of the great economists of his time. Yet, outside of Sweden, the world took very little notice of his contributions while he lived. A notable exception was the Austrian von Mises (1912) who discussed Wicksell’s theory of the credit economy in some detail and based his business cycle theory on it.
